This newly-created Vice Presidency will provide executive-level leadership for recruitment and retention of students. The College seeks a leader who can develop and execute strategic plans, oversee a constituent relationship model, increase net tuition revenue, and bring best practices to recruitment and retention.

Utica College is young and innovative. Founded in 1946 as a branch campus of Syracuse University, Utica College under the dynamic leadership of President Todd Hutton achieved full independence in 2011. With its rich diversity of offerings and delivery, Utica College is a model for the comprehensive college of the 21st century. Traditional enrollment is solid, online and hybrid enrollments are expanding, and remote sites are starting now with exponential growth anticipated. For-profit entities partner with the College for some recruitment and marketing.

Reporting to the Executive Vice President, the Vice President for Enrollment Management will coordinate the College's recruitment and retention activities and focus on influencing headcount enrollment, net tuition revenue and the academic profile of the student body. The leader who fills this executive position will coordinate a campus-wide effort to improve institutional practices in ways that positively influence college choice, transition to college and student centeredness. Strategic planning and institutional research will inform these activities. The Vice President serves as a member of the President's cabinet and the Executive Vice President's leadership team.

The Institution

utica-svpem2This is a key appointment for Utica College with significant potential for success. The Vice President for Enrollment Management will inspire trust and confidence and possess the knowledge and skills to lead the College to establishing an overall exciting and effective enrollment management program. A successful candidate will have attained a minimum of a master's degree, with at least seven years of progressively responsible experience in the areas of online and campus-based admissions, retention, financial aid and enrollment operations.

The Vice President for Enrollment Management will have strong interpersonal and communication skills; be a proactive leader in enrollment management; possess a high level of knowledge and skills in enrollment management, including undergraduate admissions, financial aid, retention, data analysis, market research, and computer software (experience with CRM highly desirable); have the ability to advise the graduate area on emerging strategies for graduate recruitment; and have knowledge of international recruiting.

The Vice President for Enrollment Management will serve on both the President's cabinet and the Executive Vice President's leadership team and will supervise the work of 35 professionals, including the Assistant Vice President for Undergraduate Admissions, Assistant Vice President for Graduate Admissions, International Student Recruiter, Director of Enrollment Operations, and Director for Student Success.

Within a four hour drive from NYC, Boston, Philadelphia and Toronto, our campus is easily accessible to local, state-wide, and regional organizations desiring a central meeting site.

The Utica area abounds with attractions and entertainment that supplement many organizations' meeting agendas. Nestled in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains, hiking, canoeing, golf, and other outdoor activities are plentiful. The community is rich in cultural activities and the arts, including concerts, theater, museums, historic sites, and a nationally-recognized art institute. Shopping malls, specialty boutiques, and restaurants, many of which feature superb ethnic food, are also within minutes of Utica College.


  • Oversees planning, operations, and evaluation processes for undergraduate, international and graduate admissions. This includes supporting and overseeing the Constituent Relationship Management System (CRM) to manage prospective student workflow.
  • Coordinates institutional retention efforts for programs offered on the Utica campus and at regional learning centers. This includes supporting an associated retention tool to manage communications and current student workflow.
  • Develops a Strategic Enrollment Management plan and works cooperatively with the Provost of the College and with other senior staff, faculty, and administrators in planning and implementing that strategy.
  • Co-Chairs with the Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Student Success the College's Student Success Coordinating Council that oversees campus-wide recruitment and retention strategies; members include the Assistant Vice President of Undergraduate Admissions, the Director of Graduate Admissions, the Director of Online Recruitment/Admissions, the Vice President for Strategic Initiatives, the Vice President for Planning and Analysis, Director of Student Success and Retention, Director of Online Success Coaching, and Director of Residence Life.
  • Coordinates all enrollment reporting to the College's administrative leadership, trustees, and faculty.
  • Coordinates and oversees the College's adherence to NCAA regulations that relate to financial aid and admissions.
  • Assists with market research to determine institutional reputation, position the College effectively, and match student demand to curricular offerings that are consistent with institutional mission.
  • Works directly with the admissions staff to develop and implement a comprehensive recruitment plan to meet the College's enrollment goals.
  • Works with the Executive Director of Student Financial Services to develop policies to maximize net tuition revenue, enhance student persistence and student centeredness.
  • Works with the Marketing & Communications staff and others to develop an integrated marketing message that captures the distinctive values of the Utica College experience.
  • Works to encourage parents and alumni to take an active interest in the College and the admissions process.
  • Accepts primary responsibility for developing and testing recruitment publications.
  • Supervises the application and selection process.
  • Represents the College at school visits and admissions receptions and speaks at professional associations and civic gatherings. Establishes effective outreach to the corporate community to assess the need for and help build an employee talent pool that meets industry demand locally, regionally, and nationally.
  • Works with the Office of International Programs to coordinate the recruitment and matriculation of international students.
  • Monitors admissions, recruitment, financial aid policies and practices to insure that the highest ethical standards are maintained.
